DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WORKS and ENGINEERING - Adam Boeche, Director of Public Works and Engineering
The Public Works Department is divided into six divisions, each headed by a superintendent. Collectively these divisions are
charged with operating and maintaining the public facilities and infrastructure. They also provide assistance to the public and
other village departments during periods of general emergency. The department is under the oversight of the Director of Public Works
Public Works Administration includes the Director, Deputy Director, and a
full time secretary.
The Director of Public Works and Public Works Administration staff is
responsible for the supervision, oversight, direction, and control of all
aspects of the daily Public Works operations and divisions and the Director
of Public Works is also the Safety Director for the Village of Mundelein.
The department is organized into six divisions.
The Mundelein Engineering Division provides civil engineering related services in support of the managed, orderly growth and development
of the community. Additionally, the Engineering Department fosters the design and construction of public works projects such as street and

Facility Maintenance Division
This division is responsible for the inspection and maintenance of village buildings as part of the Preventative Maintenance Program.
This includes minor care of the mechanical equipment, general woodworking, electrical, plumbing, painting, heating/venting/air conditioning,
and assisting in preparing bid specifications and overseeing contracted work when necessary, such as the landscape maintenance and HVAC programs.
The division also repairs and maintains the village-owned streetlights; assists in the care and maintenance of village-maintained trees;
in snow and ice removal operations and holiday and seasonal decorations and banners.
Street Maintenance Division
This division is responsible for the maintenance, construction and operations of nearly 90 miles of village roadways, snow and ice control and
removal, street sweeping, street signs, approximately 65 miles of storm sewer, public sidewalks, and parkway trees.
The division also provides department personnel with training on heavy equipment operations.
In addition, the division is the main "turn-to" group in providing assistance to the remaining Village of Mundelein departments, or for
the Village of Mundelein's special activities and events.
They provide special or emergency services to the Fire and Police Departments, coordination, set-up, and removal of the Mundelein Days
Celebration. This division is extremely active in short and long-term maintenance and special needs of the Village of Mundelein.
The division is known countywide for its excellence in providing ice and snow removal operations.
This division is responsible for the control of water distribution, facilities, and infrastructure; administration, analysis, evaluations,
and operations involved in meeting the federal and state E.P.A. requirements. Our Village purchases water from the Central Lake County Joint Action Water Agency (CLCJAWA). CLCJAWA is an intergovernmental
cooperative, formed by the communities it serves: Grayslake, Gurnee, Lake Bluff, Libertyville, Mundelein, Round Lake, Round Lake Beach,
Round Lake Heights, Round Lake Park, and Lake County representing the unincorporated areas of Knollwood, Rondout, Wildwood, and Vernon
Hills. Our tap water quality is consistently monitered by the Village, by the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency, in the CLCJAWA
Water Quality Lab, and by other independent labs.
This division is responsible for the control of wastewater collection and treatment facilities; administration, analysis, evaluations,
and operations involved in meeting the federal and state E.P.A. requirements. Currently the division operates and maintains a state-of-the-art
wastewater treatment facility, six sanitary lift stations (pumping facilities), and over 100 miles of sanitary sewer collection mains.
The personnel assigned to the collection section must oversee the administration of E.P.A. required Industrial Pre-Treatment Compliance
Programs which includes the review, analysis, and enforcement of discharge received from business, commercial, and industrial sewer users.
This program ensures that discharges meet local, state, and federal requirements limiting the discharge of toxic or otherwise unsuitable
substances into the sanitary system and/or into the environment.
The average daily flow is nearly 4 million gallons.
Vehicle Maintenance Division
This division conducts preventative and repair maintenance of the entire fleet and inventory of Village of Mundelein vehicles, and mobile and small
The staff conducts reviews and purchases supplies and parts involved in keeping these resources in excellent operating condition, as well as playing
an integral part in the specification and bidding process of purchasing new vehicles and equipment.
The Vehicle Maintenance personnel also play an important and active role in the pre-and post-snow storm periods, as well as being on callback
during the storm to operate and/or repair ice and snow removal equipment as needed.
