BUILDING DEPARTMENT - Pete Schubkegel, Building Director
Purpose and Function
The purpose and function of the Building Department is to ensure public safety, health and welfare, during building construction and renovation
to secure the safety of life and property from hazards incidental to the design, erection, repair and occupancy of buildings through proper
inspection practices; and to preserve the appearance and property value of existing housing through efficient code enforcement.
The Building Department issues all building permits; reviews all building plans, and revises building codes in order to remain current with national
and state standards. Inspectors perform building, electrical and plumbing inspections, as well as property maintenance inspections. The Director is
staff liaison to the Plan Commission, the Zoning Board of Appeals, the Appearance Review Commission, and the Permits Committee.
All citizen complaints are investigated by the department. "Notice of Violation" letters are issued when citizens and others fail to comply with
village ordinance. Non-traffic citations are issued if no cooperation is received following the "Notice of Violation." Building Department
personnel, and the Village Attorney, represent the village in court on these matters.
