FUNCTION:

The following information is provided to prospective Fire Pension Board members as a guide to the functions and duties of the Fire Pension Board and acts as the local administrative body that is responsible for the investment and administration of the retirement plan for sworn “police” or “fire” personnel as governed by “Article 3” or “Article 4” of the Illinois Pension Code (40 ILCS5/).

MEMBERSHIP:

The board of trustees shall consist of the following: (a) two persons appointed by the village president, (b) two other persons who shall be chosen from the active firefighters within the meaning of Article 4 of the Illinois Pension Code as amended, and (c) one other person who is retired under the Mundelein firefighters' pension fund who is elected from persons retired under the Mundelein firefighters' pension fund. The members of the board of trustees created hereunder to be selected from the active and retired firefighters shall be elected at the time and in the manner provided by state statute. The board of trustees created hereunder shall elect from its number a president and secretary. There are no residency requirements for Pension Board Members. All appointees to the Fire Pension Board shall be persons dedicated to the goals of the Board and the best interests of the membership and the Village.

MEETINGS:

Meetings are held on the fourth Monday of each quarter (January, April, July and October) at 8:30 a.m. at the Fire Station Headquarters, 1000 North Midlothian Road.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

The board of trustees of the firemen's pension fund shall have control of the management of all funds belonging to, or designated by law or ordinance as a part of, the aforesaid firemen's pension fund and of the administration thereof, as provided by statute or ordinance, and shall have such duties and powers otherwise, if any, as may be stipulated by statute and/or ordinance.
