Writing Contests

The Mundelein Arts Commission (MAC) hosts biannual writing contests, open to all Lake County residents. Each edition of the contest will have a different genre or theme. Cash prizes are awarded for all contests. The MAC publishes winners and honorable mentions into a preserved collection available for free called "Mundelein Writes". Winning playwrights also have the opportunity to see their show produced for a public audience. Entrants must live or work in Lake County. Anyone interested in the writing contests is encouraged to contact jlee@email.mundelein.org for further information.

The next writing contest is planned for Spring of 2018, and will be a short story writing contest open to Junior High and High School students. Stay tuned for details this winter!

Got talent? We need you! Attention musicians, poets, authors, actors, comedians, magicians, and storytellers! It is your time to step forward in Mundelein and hear the applause of family, friends, and neighbors. The Mundelein Arts Commission (MAC) organizes a series of Open Mic Nights hosted at local businesses to promote music, poetry and literary readings, and the performing arts in the Village of Mundelein. Anyone with talent to share is invited to participate.

Open Mic Nights are designed to give performance artists of all kinds the opportunity to present their work in a safe, comfortable environment, and get audience feedback as they hone their craft. Many professional performers started at similar open mic events, and consider it a major step toward launching a career in show business.

The current Open Mic Night series is held at El Barrio, 1122 N Diamond Lake Rd, Mundelein, IL. The Open Mic Nights will take place on Sundays - October 1, November 5, and December 3 from 6:30 - 9 p.m. Sign-up is in advance - to sign-up for a future MAC Open Mic Night, please contact Jeff Justman of the Mundelein Arts Commission at jjustman@email.mundelein.org or 847-989-9634.
