Purpose and Function

Public Works and Engineering provide a variety of services to ensure that the Village of Mundelein is a clean, safe, and enjoyable place to live. From streetlights and trees to fire hydrants and sewers, staff members strive to enhance the quality of life for residents. The Department consists of seven divisions:

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain, repair, and improve Village streets and sidewalks
  • Ensure proper operation of traffic control devices and street lights
  • Trim trees in Village parkways and remove dead, damaged, and diseased trees from parkways
  • Municipal fleet maintenance
  • Sewer and water main repair
  • Building and landscape maintenance
  • Snow/ice control
  • Street sweeping
  • Flood assistance
  • Windstorm debris removal
  • Plan, design, administer construction and supervise all Village-owned infrastructure systems
  • Review project plans and inspect construction for private development projects
