Facility Maintenance

Facility Maintenance - Paul Schafernak, Facility Maintenance Superintendent

This division is responsible for the inspection and maintenance of village buildings as part of the Preventative Maintenance Program. This includes minor care of the mechanical equipment, general woodworking, electrical, plumbing, painting, heating/venting/air conditioning, and assisting in preparing bid specifications and overseeing contracted work when necessary, such as the landscape maintenance and HVAC programs.

Street Lights

The Village owns, repairs and maintains over 1,400 streetlights. Recently, the Village entered into an energy efficiency performance contract to replace existing high pressure sodium and metal halide fixtures with LED luminaires. The LED fixtures will provide a reduction in energy usage as well as decrease maintenance during their life cycle. Phase I included 409 fixtures located in various neighborhoods throughout the Village, including the downtown district.

There are other street lights within the community that are privately owned and maintained, either by Com Ed or another private entity. If you need to report an outage, please contact us at (847) 949-3278. If it is a Com Ed street light, noted by their characteristic wood pole, then you can report the outage directly to Com Ed by filling out their online outage form.

Metra Station

Facility Maintenance is also responsible for maintaining the Metra station and parking lot located at 205 North Archer Avenue. The Metra Station facilities have been renovated recently to include electronic payboxes that now accept credit cards and LED parking lot lighting. These projects will improve the commuter experience for the Mundelein station.
