Lottery Scam

The Mundelein Police Department is currently
investigating a lottery scam that occurred on August 21, 2007, at the Mundelein
Currency Exchange, 366 Townline Road. The victim was approached by the
above-female subject (left) who advised that she had a winning lottery ticket
and needed money to claim the prize. The victim stated above-male subject
(right) exited the currency exchange, approached the victim and female subject,
and agreed to help as well. Victim stated female subject needed $11,000 to
claim the prize. Male subject advised he would pay $5,000-$6, 000 to help,
however, victim would have to come up with the rest. Victim stated he had
$1,900 and female stated that was acceptable, and that she would pay the rest.
Victim stated that he gave the female $1,900 and it appeared she put it into an
envelope. Female subject put an envelope in victim’s back pocket and told him
to wire the money to the lottery commission. Victim stated he walked toward the
currency exchange and observed the male and female subject leave the parking lot
in a new model, dark blue, Dodge Grand Caravan, possible partial Illinois reg.
“X..4..31” towards Route 60/Townline Road. The victim stated he opened the
envelope and it contained shredded newspaper. Use caution when and if
approached by anyone who claims he/she just won the lottery and REQUIRES money
to claim the “rest of the money.” This is a scam.
