The Junior Police Academy is open to 6th, 7th and 8th grade students from District #75.  The Mundelein Police Department’s Police Liaison Officer who is stationed at Carl Sandburg teaches the class.  Teachers from Carl Sandburg, Mr. Bill Weiland and Tony Rogalski, have assisted with the classes in the past, as well as many guest speakers and/or presenters.

The Academy is designed to give students the opportunity to experience the daily tasks of a police officer.  Students will have the opportunity to learn why the educational experience is so important.  Subjects such as Mathematics, Science, English and Physical Education are discussed and how they are used in the day-to-day job responsibilities of the police officer.  Some interactive learning exercises will consist of: Accident Investigation, Crime Scene Investigation, Self-Defense Tactics and Report Writing.  Exciting field trips to various agencies will be part of this unique summer school program.  The Mundelein Fire Department will also certify students in CPR (Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation).

The academy is conducted for three weeks, everyday Monday through Friday 8:30 a.m. – 11:20 a.m,  and is considered as one program.

If your son/daughter is interested in enrolling in this fantastic summer school opportunity, please be advised that the program will be offered on a first-come first-served basis, as the class size is limited.

All students who successfully complete the Junior Police Academy course will attend an Awards Ceremony at the Mundelein Police Department and receive Certificates of Completion. Family is invited to attend this ceremony.
