Attention: Seal Coating / Home Improvement Scams
Seal Coat Scams/Home Improvement Scams In the past our department has taken several reports of seal coating scams. The targets of the scams have been elderly residents. Here are a few crime prevention tips to help you protect yourselves and safeguard your property: • Never contract any job on impulse…no matter what the good reason or “today only” bargain seems to be. • Never let solicitors into your home. • The #1 trap to avoid is the old “left over materials” line. Someone stops by and says they have some materials left from another job and offer you a great deal right now. • Beware of “fancy” trucks with small rollers or equipment carried on light “utility” type trailers and “drag box” asphalt spreaders that pull behind the truck. (Sealer tanks should always be cylindrical shaped never square and should have continuous agitation.) • Beware of companies that aren’t local. Does it really make sense for a contractor with out- of-state license plates or coming from long distances to be at your door? • Does the deal sound too good to be true? If it does, it probably is. • Beware of individuals making statements like “How’s your husband”, “I did a job for your husband a couple of years ago”, “I went to school with your son” – these are common lines that are used on seniors to let their guard down. If you observe any suspicious persons or suspicious activity in your neighborhood dial 911. If you have any questions, please contact the Mundelein Police Department at (847) 968-4600
Traffic Safety
Traffic Safety: School is back in session – school zones are clearly posted with a 20-mile per hour speed limit. Properly restrain all children ages 12 and under. Put kids in the back seat of all vehicles – especially in cars equipped with passenger-side air bags. Choose the safest walking route to school for your children with the fewest streets to cross, lowest traffic volume, and most controlled intersections. Stop for school buses that have their stop signs displayed.
Attention: PREMISE ALERT PROGRAM
Effective August 28, 2009, the Illinois Premise Alert Program Act (96-0788) became law. This Act is to ensure that consistently high levels of public safety services are available to all members of the State, including people who may require special consideration in order to access services. This program shall seek to afford people with disabilities and/or special needs the same level of public safety services while alerting public safety responders to individuals with special needs.

It has come to our attention that residents within the village and those in surrounding villages have fallen victim to a variety of internet scams. Click here for more information.
Attention: SNOW REMOVAL ORDINANCE
After last winter’s heavy snows, the Village Board adopted a new ordinance in response to a large number of complaints regarding snow piles blocking public sidewalks. This occurs primarily with commercial snow removal operations on private property. In plowing parking lots, large snow piles are created that block the sidewalk. Village Ordinance 08-02-11 prohibits this type of activity. Specifically, the shoveling or plowing of snow from a private driveway, parking lot, etc. onto a street or sidewalk in such a way that it interferes with use of the street or sidewalk is prohibited.

![]()
ur neighboring communities have
experienced several burglaries to residences.
These are occurring shortly after dark. Although the Village of Mundelein has
not seen an increase in burglaries, we are asking our residents to be vigilant.
Please dial 9-1-1 should you observe any suspicious people walking on the street
or between houses or suspicious vehicle driving or parked on the street. Crime
prevention deterrents such as locking all windows and doors, keeping garage
doors closed and placing security bars on sliding glass doors are quick and
simple things you can do to help protect your home. Being a good neighbor and
watching out for each other goes a long way to deter crime.
