Mundelein's Fourth Annual Mayor's Cup Math Challenge—an educational and fun event hosted by Mayor Steve Lentz—is generating excitement among students, parents, and teachers. The event will be held on Sunday, March 19, 2017 from Noon to 4 p.m. at Mundelein High School. Students are invited and encouraged to sign-up to participate in the contest by speaking with their mathematics teachers.
To date, Mundelein business owners have donated over $18,000 for scholarships to the participating students! This means the Village has been able to increase the number of scholarships to be awarded and increase the dollar amount for those scholarships.
“We are so pleased that the community is supporting this mathematics challenge. This is the fourth year to host the event and the response from the Mundelein business community and the students is just remarkable. In fact, Adi More, owner of Garden Fresh donated $10,000 to this event. These funds will be awarded to the top students in each category to be used to further their education. We are very grateful to Garden Fresh and to our other sponsors for making this event possible,” said Steve Lentz, Mayor, Village of Mundelein.
“Each year, the students have a great time competing with each other. The world of future innovation in our culture is going to require math. Anything remotely technical needs a good basis of math and we want to foster that idea with this math challenge,” Mayor Lentz explains.
The Mayor’s Math Challenge, is open to any student who attends school in Districts 75, 76, 79, 120, Carmel Catholic High School, or any student who lives within District 120 boundaries but attends another elementary or middle school not listed above.

"Since mathematics proficiency is critical to our nation's future technical success, I want the Village of Mundelein to be a leader in promoting mathematics specifically and academic excellence, in general. The Annual Mayor's Cup Math Challenge is a positive way to recognize our students and showcase their academic talents, Mayor Lentz said.
