The Mundelein Pageant is proudly presented by the Mundelein Community Days Commission and this year was sponsored by LaLuzerne and Smith, Ltd. Pageant officials said about 80 individuals, organizations, and merchants generously donated to the prize packages for the Queen, First Runner-Up, and Second Runner-Up in each age group. Pageant organizers extend their sincere thanks to O'Salon and Spa “for their incredibly generous contribution to not only the prize packages for the winners, but to ALL the contestants and the newly crowned Queen's moms as well!”

“I'd personally like to thank Gary Gunther, Pageant Chairman, for his continuous support of the pageant system and doing just about everything that is needed to ensure the event goes off without a hitch at Mundelein High School. He also is responsible, among so many things, for obtaining help with the lights and sound during the event. He is a true professional,” said Betty Hurmis, Executive Director.

“I’d also like to give a very special thank you to my two amazing Assistant Directors—Marilla Millner and Karen Bost. These ladies are my rock and without them, I wouldn't be able to do what I do with such ease and confidence year after year. I am forever grateful to them. I want to also thank Dani Smith who has graciously given up her time to assist with the planning and for creating a website for the Mundelein Pageants. There were several other ladies and prior Mundelein Queens who helped backstage and I'm very grateful to them, as well” Betty continued.

The contestants began their day with interviews and every one of them did an incredible job. The judges were so amazed at the level of poise and maturity these young ladies all possessed. The evening portion consisted of Speech and Communications Skills, Final Question, and Stage Presence. Some truly amazing speeches given by all and I am proud of these young ladies for having the courage (even at 6 years old) to stand up in front of an audience to give a speech.

“I especially wish to thank and acknowledge our 2016 Mundelein Queens - Miss Haley Peterson, Junior Miss Abby Hammer, Little Miss Jillian Shutter and their amazing moms and dads for doing an incredibly outstanding job of collecting donations for the prize packages for this year's pageant winners. The 3 young ladies represented the Village of Mundelein with grace and dignity throughout the year. I am incredibly proud of all of them and their families for not only ensuring they attend as many events as scheduled but for all of their hard work to ensure the newly 2017 Mundelein Queens, Runners-Up, and all the contestants had a truly memorable experience,” Betty concludes.
