Mundelein Police Department and Elly’s Pancake House Team Up to Help 40 Mundelein Families with Thanksgiving Meal

The Mundelein Police Department and Elly’s Pancake House in Mundelein have teamed up again this year to provide 40 Mundelein families with a complete Thanksgiving meal. The turkeys were donated be Elly’s and the side dishes were provided by Girl Scout Troops 40664, 40310, 43018, 40138, Brownie Troop 43079, the Mundelein After School Coalition (MASC), and the Mundelein Indian Princesses – Fox Tribe of the Mighty Croix Nation. Families will receive their Thanksgiving turkeys and sides on November 21 just in time for Thanksgiving.

“This is the 17th year that we have teamed up with Elly’s to help make the Thanksgiving holiday a little easier for some of our families in need. None of this would be possible without the assistance of Elly’s. It’s just a great feeling to give back to the community and help those who need it. This is the part of my job that makes it all worth it,” said Eric Guenther, Mundelein Police Chief.

The families who received the Thanksgiving meal are chosen through contacts developed through the police department, churches, and from Mundelein school districts that provide names of families who are struggling and might need a helping hand.

In addition to the turkeys donated by Elly’s, the MASC and the Freemont Township Girl Scouts collect additional items to make complete Thanksgiving dinners. Mundelein Police Officers, Rachel Messina and Anastasios Koumantos coordinated all of the logistics with the two groups to package the dinners and deliver the food to those in need.

“We’re very grateful that Elly’s approached us years ago to help start this community program. They were looking for a way to give back to the community and this program reflects that commitment,” Guenther concluded.
