Mundelein Public Works Facility Maintenance Team Finds New Ways to Conserve Energy, Save Money

In the interest of being responsible with taxpayers’ money, Mundelein Public Works Facility Maintenance is taking advantage of Com Ed’s new energy efficiency incentive program by implementing the company’s small facilities public sector energy efficiency offerings. Under this unique grant program, Com Ed provides extra incentives for facilities functioning 24 hours a day using less than 100 Kilowatt hours per month.

In March, the Facility Maintenance staff converted 517 interior fixtures and 10 parking lot fixtures to LED at Mundelein’s two fire stations. The combined energy reductions from both stations is a 60% wattage reduction. The lights also have dimming capabilities which will further contribute to energy reductions.

“Our energy efficiency program for small public sector facilities is part of a broader plan under Illinois’ Future Energy Jobs Act to achieve nearly 12 percent total energy efficiency savings by 2021 and support job creation efforts across the state,” explains Julie Hollensbe, manager of the energy efficiency portfolio at ComEd.

Residential, business, and public sector customers have saved more than $2.7 billion since ComEd introduced its energy efficiency programs in 2008. This is ComEd’s first program focused specifically on helping public sector customers with smaller facilities reduce their energy use and costs.
