Mundelein to Recognize Vietnam Vets During Annual Veterans Day Recognition Ceremony

To commemorate Veterans Day 2017 and honor those who have fought and faithfully served our country in the Vietnam War, Mayor Steve Lentz and the Mundelein Board of Trustees are hosting a Veterans Day recognition ceremony, on Monday, October 23, 2017 beginning at 6:30 p.m. at the Mundelein Village Hall, immediately preceding the Village Board Meeting. The ceremony, co-hosted with the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars, will recognize Vietnam Veterans for their courage, sacrifices, and honorable service to the country.

To this end, the Mayor and Trustees cordially invite Vietnam Veterans who either reside, have previously resided, work, or attend a veteran organization in the Village of Mundelein. During the ceremony, Mayor Lentz will present each veteran with a personalized Mayoral Proclamation for their military service in Vietnam.

In 2012, the federal government designated May 12, 2012 through November 11, 2025 as the commemoration period of the 50th Anniversary of the Vietnam War. President Barack Obama called upon federal, state, and local officials to honor our nation’s Vietnam veterans during this time period and the Village of Mundelein is proud to answer this call as part of its 2017 Veterans Day observance.

“Vietnam Veterans, like all of our vets have served our country faithfully and it is never too late to thank them with a hero’s recognition. I’m hoping our local Vietnam Vets accept our personal invitation to receive this well-deserved honor at the Village of Mundelein’s Veterans Day 2017 ceremony,” said Steve Lentz, Mayor.

Viet Nam Vets are asked to RSVP by October 15, 2017 by calling Tami Schafernak at 847-949-3223 or by sending an email to tschafernak@mundelein.org.
