Mundelein Welcomes Panera Bread to Village— New Restaurant Features Drive-Thru, Outdoor Patio Seating, Rapid Pick-Up

Mayor Steve Lentz and the Board of Trustees are pleased to welcome Panera Bread bakery-café to Mundelein. The new 4,156 sq. ft. restaurant is located at 1575 South Lake Street—at the north east intersection of Townline Road (Route 60) and South Lake St (Route 45). Mundelein’s Panera Bread features the latest Panera design with drive-thru and outdoor patio seating.

“We are very pleased to now have Panera Bread in Mundelein. This was one of our economic development goals to attract this restaurant to town because of its excellent reputation for healthy and delicious food. It is situated in an ideal location and I know our residents are pleased to have this restaurant in town, as well. Panera Bread’s warm and welcoming environment includes various intimate seating areas, comfortable chairs, a community table, and free Wi-Fi Internet access. The Panera Bread team and Village staff worked together closely to finalize plans for a great looking building on a very visible corner. This is an excellent addition to a growing list of dining options in our Village and on behalf of the Board of Trustees we extend a warm Mundelein welcome,” said Steve Lentz, Mayor.

On opening day, the first 20 dine-in and drive-thru guests received a loaf of bread every month for a year with any purchase. The next 25 dine-in and drive-thru guests received a reusable Panera coffee cup.

“We are thrilled about the opening of our 39th bakery-café in Chicagoland. We look forward to engaging with guests from the Mundelein community and sharing our great products and our Panera warmth at our newest location,” said Mike Hamra, CEO & President of Hamra Enterprises, a Panera Bread franchisee in Chicagoland since 1998.

Mundelein’s new bakery-café also offers Fast Lane Kiosks, in addition to cashier stations, so that wait time is reduced for all guests. For those on the go, an ordering option called Rapid Pick-Up will enable customers to place an online/mobile order from their office, car, work or home – up to 2 weeks in advance – and pick up their food at a pre-determined time without waiting in line. The bakery-cafe will be equipped with a special “to go” pick-up area, featuring dedicated seating, an order-status monitor providing real-time information as orders are prepared and completed, and shelf space, all to facilitate easy pick-up.

The entire Panera Bread menu is available to order through the bakery-cafe’s drive-thru window during regular hours of operation. Mundelein’s Panera Bread is open Monday through Saturday from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. and on Sunday from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m.

With its identity rooted in handcrafted, freshly baked, artisan bread, Panera Bread is committed to providing great tasting, quality food that people can trust. Highlighted by antibiotic-free chicken, whole grain bread, select organic and all-natural ingredients and a menu with zero grams added trans-fat, Panera’s bakery-cafe selection offers flavorful, wholesome offerings. The menu includes a variety of year-round favorites to complement seasonal items and breads baked fresh daily in each bakery-cafe by skilled bakers.

Food as it should be
Panera Bread began with a simple commitment: to bake fresh bread every day in our bakery-cafes. That commitment led to others, like the early decision to remove artificial trans-fats, post calories on menu boards and invest in serving chicken raised without antibiotics. In 2014, Panera issued a comprehensive Food Policy that expressed its commitments to clean ingredients, menu transparency and having a positive impact on the food system. This included a pledge to remove artificial additives (flavors, sweeteners, preservatives and colors from artificial sources) from the food in its U.S. bakery-cafes by the end of 2016. Panera Bread has achieved this lofty goal.

An Active Community Partner
As part of the local community, all donations made by guests in the new Mundelein bakery-cafe will benefit Make-A-Wish® Illinois, a charity that helps grant the wishes of children with life threatening medical conditions. For the past five years over 30 local bakery-cafes joined the community in contributing over $600,000 to Make-A-Wish® Illinois to grant 114 wishes.
