Residents Reminded to Follow Important Leaf Collection Rules

Mundelein’s leaf collection program is in full swing right now and the Village of Mundelein has received numerous complaints related to residents putting leaves in the street. Please remember—leaves cannot be raked into the street. In the interest of keeping the Village’s leaf collection program proceeding smoothly, please remember to stage your leaves properly! All leaves must be raked to the curb before November 24 to ensure your leaves will be collected!

Leaves raked into the street causes many issues:
• Blocked drainage structures, which leads to flooding
• Creates narrowed roadways
• Creates slippery roads
• Hinders snow and ice control operations
• Impedes the street sweeper

If you have a carriage sidewalk adjacent to your property, you may place the leaf piles on the sidewalk. Do not place leaves farther than 5 feet from the street– the vacuum hose will not reach them. Sticks and tree branches must be removed from leaf piles, as this debris will clog the vacuum hose and slow collection.

Parked cars must be at least 30 ft. away from the leaf pile in order for the truck to access the pile. If on-street parking is hindering collection of your leaves, please contact the Public Works Department at 847-949-3270 for assistance.

Groot collection crews will have numerous trucks working on a daily basis. The speed of the leaf collection program depends greatly on the weather—rain and snow slows collection, so it’s best for residents to rake early and often to avoid last minute collection issues.
