SWALCO Outlines COVID-19 Guidelines

Updates and Resources for Waste/Recycling Programs, Services During COVID -19 Pandemic
Curbside collection programs for waste, recycling and yard waste are operational currently.  SWALCO staff, municipal representatives and the waste industry are working diligently to keep business as usual during this time and provide updates in a timely fashion when there are changes or any noteworthy news.

SWALCO has developed new information guides that residents can utilize to address questions they have about waste and recycling programs.  These guides also provide other helpful information and resources, including:  what you might expect from your hauling service now and in the future, sustainable actions you can take at home; information on proper recycling and recycling during the time of Covid-19;  PPE and proper disposal along with recycling safety; information for individual communities – what does my neighborhood program look like?; information on yard waste and food scrap programs; contacts for haulers in our region, and other valuable and related  information.

COVID-19 and Recycling Safety

The agency encourages everyone to check the website for updates as well as information on special recycling and reuse programs, including Household Chemical Waste programs, Electronics Recycling, Clothing and Textile Collection Program, Reuse-A-Shoe, and the Compost Bin/Rain Barrel Sales and Education program.  

Executive Director Walter Willis asks that people “Please read through these guides…. residents will find answers to many of their questions, along with other helpful information.” 

Merleanne Rampale, SWALCO’s Public Information and Education Director notes, “We have residents contacting us every day wanting to do the right thing, and looking for assistance, and we’ve put this information together to help during this time.” 

Staff also encourage residents to follow SWALCO on social media and to sign up for e-news to receive other timely info, as well as important resources during this time and beyond.
