Mundelein Park District Welcomes New Executive Director
Mundelein Park & Recreation District’s Board of Commissioners recently announced the hiring of Ron Salski as the District’s new Executive Director. Prior to accepting this position, Salski served as the Executive Director of Lake Bluff Park District for nearly 12 years. Overall, he has 26 years of experience in the field of parks and recreation.
“Mundelein Park & Recreation District is very fortunate, excited, and proud to have someone of Ron’s caliber to succeed Ms. Margaret Resnick, an exceptional Executive Director for the past thirteen 13 years,” said Jesse Ortega, Park District Board President. “The Mundelein community will continue to have the best park district managerial operations in the state with Ron as Executive Director.”
Before Lake Bluff Park District, Salski served five years as the Director of Park & Recreation Services at Wheeling Park District. Earlier experience includes Division Director and Superintendent of Recreation at Hoffman Estates Park District and Superintendent of Recreation and Recreation Supervisor at Salt Creek Park District (Palatine). Salski served as Chairman of the Board for the Illinois Park and Recreation Association (IPRA), state-wide association, Team Leader for the Illinois Department of Natural Resources Sand Management Working Group, Treasurer of the Girls Feeder Basketball Advisory Committee. He currently serves as Co-Chair of the Illinois Association of Park Districts (IAPD) Research Council and is a Committee Member of the IAPD/IPRA Joint Distinguished Accreditation Committee.
Salski and his family have been Mundelein residents for 12 years. His wife, Julie, is a Special Education teacher in Arlington Heights, daughter Addison is a sophomore at Mundelein High School, daughter Annalie an 8th grader at Fremont Middle School, and son Ashton is a 4th grader at Fremont Intermediate School. The Salski’s family pet is Mowgli, a Cockapoo. All (even Mowgli) have been involved in Mundelein Park & Recreation District through programs like the Mundelein School of Dance, sports programs, NovaCare Fitness Center and many special events.
In 2014, the Salski’s established a Family Foundation, Big Dreams for Little Hearts, to purchase Automated External Defibrillators (AED) for children with heart conditions. They started the foundation after realizing the challenges with purchasing an AED.
“Since we moved here, my family has been significant supporters of Mundelein Park and Recreation District and the community,” said Salski. “We frequently participate in Park District programs and special events, visit the golf course, gym and fitness center and enjoy bike rides to its many parks. I am honored to be serving the community that I love and making a difference in what I believe is the best Park District in the State of Illinois. It is my dream job and I want to thank the Board of Commissioners for giving me this opportunity to lead and become even more integrated in the Mundelein Community. The Park District has an innovative, passionate, and dedicated staff, so I look forward to collaborating and working together to continue offering quality programs, facilities, parks, and services."
Salski started his job on May 1 and is transitioning with the current Executive Director, Margaret Resnick. Resnick will be retiring the end of the May after serving the District for the last 13 years.
