The following information is provided to prospective Economic Development Commission members as a guide to the functions and duties of the Economic Development Commission.



The Economic Development Commission endeavors to attract and retain commercial, professional and industrial business in order to enhance economic development, promote growth, and maintain a positive image of the Village of Mundelein. The Commission serves as an advisory body to the Village Board on matters related to the business community.


Nine members appointed by the Mayor with the advice and consent of the Board of Trustees.

Members of the Economic Development Commission shall reside within the Village of Mundelein, or within one and one-half miles thereof, or shall be either a commercial or industrial property owner, or an owner, officer, or a managing executive of a business or industry located in the Village. All appointees to the Economic Development Commission shall be persons dedicated to the goals of the Commission and the best interests of the Village.

Additional Information

The Economic Development Commission’s primary functions are divided into three categories: business communication, business attraction, and business retention. In order to carry out the functions established by Village ordinance, the Economic Development Commission prepares an annual work plan which varies from year to year, but generally includes the following projects:

  • Maintain featured business section on website.
  • Conduct two business site visits per month.
  • Hold two annual focus groups with a designated sector of the business community.
  • Perform an annual review and update of business informational materials and new business welcome letter.
  • Mail recognition letters to noted business successes.
  • Provide annual report to the Village Board.
  • On an annual basis, the Commission coordinates and oversees several special projects, as indicated. Examples include: Business surveys, business recognition breakfast, business seminars, and business E-newsletter.
