Mundelein’s Public Works and Engineering Department is responsible for all management, operation, maintenance and repair of Village infrastructure, property, and equipment. This includes downtown street maintenance and wastewater treatment. The department also provides emergency response services such as deicing (salting), snow removal, flood assistance, and windstorm debris removal.
The Public Works & Engineering Department is managed by the Director, with the assistance of the Business Services Manager and two support staff. Administrative personnel are responsible for oversight and coordination of the department. Duties include:
- Report preparation
- Labor negotiations
- Budget organization and management
- Procurement, including bid specification preparation
- Safety and training
- Administration of SWALCO
- Contract management – Groot and mosquito control
- Customer service
- Accounts payable
- Inter-departmental coordination
In addition to the administration staff, there are six divisions within Public Works and Engineering:
The normal business hours of the department are Monday - Friday 7:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. In order to respond to any emergency call-back situation, employees are on-call during non-business hours.
