The Village of Mundelein does not engage in any form of direct lobbying; however, the Village does contribute to a number of organizations that may advocate on its behalf.
International City/County Management Association
The International City/County Management Association (ICMA) is the premier organization for local government professionals that seeks to promote a high level of professionalism in local government by developing and fostering professional management to build better communities.
The Village pays membership dues to the ICMA for a few members of the staff. ICMA in return offers a variety of support in providing information on local government concerns in the public policy arena such as telecommunications, public safety and emergency management, planning and community development, administration and finance, human services, and public works. ICMA regularly convenes and facilitates gatherings of local government management professionals to consider and respond to emerging issues. ICMA in general advocates for policies that help make local government professionals jobs more constructive and facilitative.
Illinois Municipal League
The Illinois Municipal League (IML) is one of the oldest organizations in Illinois that strives to advocate for policies and procedures that benefit municipalities. In addition to promoting higher standards of professionalism in local government, IML routinely creates publications that help its members stay up-to-date on laws and regulations passed in the state. IML specifically provides legal briefings and information to the Village attorney.
Government Finance Officers Association
The Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) is a public sector-oriented organization that seeks to enhance and promote the professional management of governments by identifying and developing financial policies and best practices and promoting their use through education, training, facilitation of member networking, and leadership. The finance department of the Village uses the standards advocated by the GFOA to help guide the formation of the budgets and the CAFRs.
Solid Waste Agency of Lake County
The Solid Waste Agency of Lake County (SWALCO) is an organization comprised of 42 municipal members. The organization carries out the solid waste management plan for the county and helps its members ensure they are compliant with all state laws regulating waste disposal. SWALCO also identifies, evaluate and disseminates information regarding techniques to reduce, reuse and recycle the amount of solid waste generated, not only to its municipal members but to the general population.
Central Lake County Joint Action Water Agency
The Central Lake County Joint Action Water Agency (CLCJAWA) is an intergovernmental cooperative that owns and operates a completely independent water system. Mundelein and neighboring municipalities have the agency maintain the system operations that in turn enable the members to have more cost effective rates and higher quality service because of better economies of scale. If directed, CLCJAWA will represent its members and their interests if any issues arise related to the service delivery.
