MotorcycleThe Mundelein Police Department is dedicated to traffic safety and enforcement programs to help keep our city residents and visitors as safe as possible when traveling through our city.

The Mundelein Police Department, through cooperation with Harley Davidson, has procured two Harley Davidson Electra Glide Police Motorcycles. These motorcycles have been specially equipped with a compliment of emergency lights, sirens, as well as radar units. The officers are specially trained and must complete a minimum of 80 hours of instruction through Northwestern Traffic Institute/Harley Davidson.

The motorcycle unit allows the police department to further break down the barriers between the police and the community, by making the officers more approachable to the public. Children and adults alike cannot resist approaching the officers as well as the motorcycles, thus making the unit a great community-relations tool.

The Motorcycle Unit consists of four specially trained officers that, on a part-time basis, use the department’s two motorcycles for specialized traffic enforcement. We have found them to be an exceptional tool in reducing traffic complaints due to the non-traditional approaches to solving traffic concerns that we are able to employ. Residents of Mundelein have openly supported this approach in the community.

The primary duties of the Motorcycle Unit are traffic complaint enforcement, high congestion traffic control and enforcement, accident reduction enforcement, escorts, and special event traffic control. Escorts, parades, and traffic and crowd control associated with special events are areas that motorcycle officers handle with great efficiency.
