Mundelein Board of Trustees Authorize Filing of an Appeal in SAIA Motor Freight Lawsuit

After careful review of all available options, the Mundelein Board of Trustees recently authorized the filing of an appeal in the Second Appellate Court regarding the Mundelein vs. SAIA Motor Freight Line/Grayslake lawsuit. The trustees authorized this appeal at the May 22, 2017 Board Meeting.

Mundelein Trustees felt compelled to pursue this course of action due to the long-term negative impact to the community from a trucking facility located directly next to an established residential neighborhood. These concerns primarily center on noise, truck traffic, diesel fuel pollution, diminished property values and a 24/7 industrial operation.

“I am pleased that the Board of Trustees approved the filing of an appeal in this case because once this facility is fully operational, it will have profound implications and a lasting impact on the community. We have always maintained that this trucking facility has been built in an area not suited for its use. We remain concerned about the long-term effects on our residents who currently reside along the Midlothian Road Corridor and to the entire Mundelein community, in general,” said Steve Lentz, Mayor.

The property on which the SAIA truck terminal is now located, is part of a larger tract of land bounded by Route 83 on the west, Winchester Road on the south, Midlothian Road on the east, and Peterson Road on the north. The property is next to the corporate limits of Mundelein and the Cambridge Country North residential subdivision.
